What we hold, and why
Privacy Policy
Last updated 2 August 2026
Short version: we collect what the product needs to work, we don't sell it, there are no advertising or analytics trackers on this site, and you can download or delete everything yourself from Settings.
What we collect
Because you gave it to us:
- Your name, email address, and a password — stored only as a scrypt hash, so nobody here can read it, including us.
- An optional fund name, shown on the standings board if you set one.
Because you used the product:
- Your simulated trading: orders, positions, cash, the equity curve, and price alerts.
- Academy progress — lessons, quiz answers, spaced-repetition review history, mastery levels.
- Anything you write: journal entries, notes, and your conversations with the assistant and your analysts.
- A short set of notes the assistant keeps about you, so it doesn't start from nothing every conversation — things like what you're learning or how you prefer to be talked to. You can read every one of them, and delete any or all of them, under Settings. They go the moment you close your account, not 30 days later.
- The analysts you configure, and what they did.
Because a server has to run:
- A session token in a cookie, so you stay logged in.
- Your IP address, briefly, for rate limiting and abuse triage.
- Server error reports when something breaks, which may include the URL and your account id — we use these to fix faults, and nothing else.
What we do not do
We do not sell or rent your data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. There are no third-party analytics, advertising, or fingerprinting scripts on this site — not because we plan to add them later behind a policy that already permits it, but because we have not added them.
We never see your password, and we never ask for real brokerage credentials, bank details, or payment information. If anything claiming to be Tars Trading ever does, it is not us.
Cookies
Two, both strictly necessary: one holds your login session, one remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. No tracking cookies, so there is no consent banner to click through.
Who else touches it
Only the services that make the product run:
- Our hosting and database providers, which store the data described above.
- Our email provider, which receives your address and the contents of the transactional emails we send you (confirmation, password reset). We send no marketing email.
- Market data vendors, which supply prices to us. Data flows from them to you; nothing about you flows back.
- A language-model provider, for the assistant. What you type to the assistant is sent to whichever model backs it — depending on our deployment, that is either a model running on our own infrastructure or a third-party inference API. Assume anything you type into a chat box leaves our server, and don't put secrets in it. The notes the assistant keeps about you are sent along with each message, for the same reason they exist — they are what lets it answer as though it knows you.
How long we keep it
Your account data lives as long as your account does. When you close it, your name and email are removed immediately and the remaining simulated data is erased 30 days later — that window exists so an accidental deletion can be reversed.
Rate-limit records and error reports are short-lived operational data. Market prices and bars are not about you and are kept indefinitely.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can do these from Settings, without asking us:
- See and take your data — one button downloads everything we hold as a JSON file.
- Delete it — closing your account starts the erasure described above.
If you are in the UK, EU, or a similar jurisdiction, you also have the right to correct inaccurate data, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. Email privacy@tarstrading.com and we will act within 30 days.
Our lawful bases, in GDPR terms: performing our contract with you (running the account), legitimate interests (keeping the service up and free of abuse), and consent where we ask for it.
Children
Tars Trading is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has an account here, email us and we will remove it.
Where your data sits
Our servers and database are hosted in the United States. If you are outside the US, using the site means your data is transferred there.
Changes
If we start collecting something new, or send data somewhere new, we will update this page and say so on the site rather than quietly changing the date.
